Townie Tidbits

SO LONG TO JIMMY FURLONG

I saw that James Furlong recently passed away at the ripe old age of 97 years old. He has been living in Revere for nearly 40 years at the time of death. However he was a Townie, grew up here and went to school here.

He was a member of the Greatest Generation and enlisted in the US Navy about a little more than a week after the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales Grammar School and Charlestown  High School.

He joined the Boston Police Department in 1949 and retired in 1987 following 38 years of service on the job. Furlong was a past president oif The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, the Bunker Hill Knights Council #62 and the Revere Elks and Revere VFW Post later in life. Funeral services were held at Carr’s.

He will be missed by his loving family and plenty of friends from over his lifetime. Once a Townie, always a Townie!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JIMMY CARROLL

I bumped into Jimmy Carroll at the CVS Pharmacy inside the Bunker Hill. I wished him a Happy Birthday, he just had another one on Christmas Eve. If you bump into him in your travels, wish him a Happy Birthday too.
