The announcement by Council President Michelle Wu that our own City Councilor Sal LaMattina has been named Chairman of the Parks and Recreation and Transportation Committee as well as vice chair of the Ways and Means Committee certainly comes as good news to residents.
These committees are very important for quality of life issues in Charlestown. Whether one is looking at open spaces like parks or environmental issues or trash and recycling operations, LaMattina will be the go-to person.
Committee assignments are important to a city councilor because all measures that eventually come out of these committees will be voted on by the entire City Council and could then be enacted into law.
The fact that LaMattina has been named as chair of two of these committees and a high leadership post in the third shows the high esteem in which he is held by Council President Wu.
For more than 10 years, LaMattina has always worked tirelessly in representing our district and he has always been very available to hear the concerns of residents as he attends hundreds of events a year. This dedication to the residents of his district was not lost on Wu.
Congratulations Councilor LaMattina on being named to key leadership roles on these important committees.
