Samuel Poole of Revere, formerly Charlestown, died on Nov. 24.

A US Marine Corps veteran, he was the loving father of Samuel A. Poole of Revere and Stephen Poole of Somerville; dear brother of Margaret Zarella and Joanne Fitzgerald, both of Methuen, Eleanor Foley of Charlestown, Steven Poole of Reading, Lorraine Sexton of Everett and the late David and Ronald Poole; cherished grandfather of Samuel A. Patrick Cotter

Charlestown resident

Patrick J. Cotter of Charlestown died on Nov. 25.

He was the beloved son of William J. and Marjorie (Cutlip) Cotter; brother of William Cotter and his wife, Jennifer, of Falmouth; Jeanne Cotter and James Cotter and his wife, Emily, all of Charlestown; uncle and Godfather of Taylor Cotter.

Funeral arrangements were by the John H. Sawyer Funeral Home, Charlestown. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his name may be made to Dorchester Girls Youth Hockey.

Thomas ‘Toddy’ McLaughlin

Former Referee and Coach of the Charlestown Milt Schmidt Hockey Program

Thomas E. “Toddy” McLaughlin of Charlestown died peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, surrounded by his family, a proud lifelong resident of Charlestown, “God’s Country.”

A proud US Army veteran of World War II, he was a former referee and coach in the Charlestown Milt Schmidt Hockey Program, a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and a retired member of Teamsters Local 379.

He was the beloved son of the late Annie (Dolan) and Michael McLaughlin and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage to his devoted wife Marion F. (McCarthy) McLaughlin. “Toddy” was both father and friend to Joanne Connolly and her fiancé, Daniel Sullivan, Janet McLaughlin and her husband, Tom Petrocelli, Thomas and Michelle McLaughlin, Brian McLaughlin and Gerard and Suzanne McLaughlin; loving grandfather to Meghann, Erin, Jonathan, TJ, Sean, Kyle and Kelly and great grandfather to Drew and Tori. He was the brother of the late William, John, Francis, Alfred McLaughlin, Mary “Sis” O’Brien and Sr. Lorraine McLaughlin CSJ and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the John H. Sawyer Funeral Home, Charlestown. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph, 34 Lower Westfield Rd., Holyoke, MA., O1040.

Joseph Roche Sr.

Postal Service retiree

Joseph W. Roche, Sr. of Malden, formerly of Charlestown, died on November 22. He was 86 years old.

A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a recipient of The Purple Heart, he was a lifetime member of The James A.  Roche VFW Post 680 and a retired employee of the Maintenance Dept. of The U.S. Postal Service.

He was the beloved husband of 58 years of Gertrude (McCormick) Roche; devoted father of Joseph W. Roche Jr. and his wife, Mary of Medford, Marianne Hudd and her husband, Michael of Malden, Thomas E. Roche and his wife, Cindy of California; loving grandfather of Maureen and Jeffrey Ruscio, Joseph Roche, Michael and Erin Hudd, Allyson Roche, Michelle Hudd, Caitlin and Julie Roche; loving great grandfather of Brianna Dacey and Aaron Ruscio; beloved brother of John Roche of Stoneham and Medford, and the late Edward Roche, Anna Scanlan, Henry and Thomas Roche; beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, Charlestown. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
