Peter Looney

Chairman of Charlestown Against Drugs

Peter P. Looney of Charlestown died on Aug. 11. He was 69 years old.

He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 17, Bunker Hill Council 62, K. of C., the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, Bunker Hill Associates and the Chairman of Charlestown Against Drugs.

He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Mary E. “Mae” (Sullivan) Looney; devoted father of Peter P. Looney Jr. and his wife, Diane and Michelle O’Leary and her husband, Thomas, all of Marshfield; loving “Dado” to Brendan, Molly and Nolan Looney and Brooke and Meadow O’Leary; beloved son of the late William and Agnes (Burns) Looney and his surrogate parents, Patrick and Alice Murphy; beloved brother of Robert Looney of New York, William Looney of Harwich, Lawrence Looney of Haverhill, the late Patricia MacFadden, Patricia Foley and Virginia Walsh. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and dear relatives and friends.

Of Somerville, formerly of Charlestown

George E. Rodriguez of Somerville, formerly of Charlestown and Roslindale, died on Aug. 8.

He was the loving father of Corey E., Catherine E. and David A. Rodriguez, all of Roslindale; beloved brother of Pablo of Honduras and Norma of Somerville; loving uncle of Stephen of Somerville; former husband of Nancy T. Rodriguez of Roslindale.

Irene ‘Renee’ Avellino

Revere resident

Irene F. “Renee” (Macomber) Avellino of Revere died on August 12.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Avellino; devoted mother of Kathleen Atkinson of Revere; loving aunt of her special niece Carol Dinan and her husband, Robert of Saugus, Elaine Varney and her husband, Bryant of Revere, Thomas Howell and his wife, Maryann of Medford; dear sister of Joseph Macomber and his wife, Pamela of Charlestown. She was the sister of many late siblings and is also survived by her grandchildren, Ronald Atkinson and his wife, Christina, Kevin and Kerri Dinan and three great-grandchildren Danielle, Ashley and Damian.

Meaghan E. Brady of Charlestown died suddenly on Aug. 10.

She was the beloved daughter of Robert H. and Sharon M. (Latta) Brady; devoted mother of Evan Brady; loving sister of Robert and David Brady, both of Charlestown; aunt of Keira Garvin; beloved granddaughter of Jacqueline (Luse) and the late David C. “Bud” Latta and the late Hugh “Red” and Margaret (Downey) Brady.

Tina V. Staples of Charlestown died suddenly on August 6. She was 44 years old.

She was the loving mother of Brittni, Michael, Tatum and Aaron Byrnes, all of Lynn; wife of Michael Byrnes; loving grandmother of Caleb Moreno; beloved daughter of Pamela Tamburello of Revere and devoted sister to four brothers and four sisters. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Goodway Graphics retiree

Robert G. Doherty of Seabrook, N.H., formerly of Charlestown and Billerica, died recently. He was 76 years old.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Metropolitan Rod & Gun Club and a retired employee of Goodway Graphics.

He was the beloved father of Jeffrey Doherty of Oklahoma, Tricia Hennessey and Michael Doherty, both of New Hampshire and Stephen Doherty of Florida; loving grandfather of Brendan Doherty; devoted brother of Francis X. Doherty of Hyannis, Maureen Moysey of Winthrop and the late John “Jack” Doherty, Marie Sweeney and Eddie and Leo Doherty.
