Charlestown is the oldest neighborhood in Boston, and with that comes some of the finest, old homes in the city as well, but over the last few years preservationists and residents have shuddered to see many old homes taken down to make way for new homes – sometimes simply in order to maximize the profits of an out of town developer.
Such a situation unfolded on Oak Street last summer, when a developer from the western suburbs bought one of the older homes in the Town, and although it was in perfectly good condition, keeping it wasn’t in line with “maximizing the return on investment.”
