Using the proceeds from the sale of the “The Green Square Mile…the Story of the Charlestown Irish” documentary DVD, the Committee developed to site, designed and ultimately constructed a spectacularly beautiful and emotionally moving “Children of the Famine Memorial” at the Archdiocesan Burial Ground (aka Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery).
The Charlestown Historical Society – Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery Memorial Project Committee, during the 18 months of April-2008 through September-2009, all of this led up to a memorable Dedication Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009.
A Re-Dedication Mass was celebrated by Bishop Hennessey on Sunday, Sept. 18, at Saint Francis de Sales Church followed by a blessing and re-dedication of the memorial.
