Special to the Patriot-Bridge
The Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard (Friends) held its annual Winter Warm Up on March 10 at Parris Landing in the Navy Yard. The event was attended by more than 150 people from all over Charlestown. Members and guests enjoyed the festive environment and food catered by the Navy Yard Bistro and Wine Bar. The event was sponsored by the Friends, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and the MGH Institute of Health Professions. The evening event was held to welcome John Moore back to the Navy Yard and to his restaurant, the Navy Yard Bistro, following a long illness. John received his therapy at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, soon to be relocated to the Navy Yard.
The purpose of the evening was also to recognize two individuals who have provided outstanding service to Navy Yard residents and to the City of Boston. Superintendent of Schools for the City of Boston, Dr. Carol Johnson was presented with the 2011 Anchor Award “for tireless work to provide Charlestown and the rest of Boston with a first class educational system”. Dr. Johnson is a resident in the Navy Yard.
The 2011 Commandant Award will be presented to Tom Cunha “for exemplary support of the Charlestown Navy Yard and the rest of Charlestown’s community goals”. Mr. Cunha was unable to attend the event, but will be presented with his award soon. The time and place will be announced.
