Charlestown 3, Waltham 0 — Despite the chilly fall afternoon in Charlestown, the “Townies” (3-5-0) celebrated another victory, their third of the season, over Waltham Saturday. Townie captains for the game were Lauren Sweeney and Caitlyn McDermott. McDermott played goalie for most of the game making some excellent saves and Isabelle Charbonnier came in as goalie at the end of the second half, making some great saves to keep the game a shut-out. The three Charlestown goals were scored in the first half of the game, the first within the first five minutes by midfielder Charbonnier, who was right there on a rebound shooting the ball low into the corner of Waltham’s net. The second goal was scored, again, by Charbonnier who took control of the ball in front of Waltham’s net and drilled it low and to the corner. Maeve Fitz and Anneli Merivaara, playing midfield and forward respectively, were in front of the net making some nice follow throughs towards Waltham’s net. Merivaara was right in front of the net to follow through on a beautiful cross from Josie Hoyt, resulting in the third goal for the Townies. Forward Hannah Reed showed some great ball skills this game, dribbling up the field right by Waltham’s defense. Forward Ruby Dunlea had a number of great shots on net that almost resulted in more goals for the “Townies.” Emily Pardy and Caroline Adduci played many positions throughout the game helping out their team; at midfield both Adduci and Pardy did a great job moving the ball up the field but also came back to help out the defense when Waltham was headed toward the net. Defenders Sweeney and Lucy Donovan were able to beat Waltham to the ball on many occasions, sending the ball back up the field for a “Townie” goal. The girls play their last game of the season next Saturday, November 13, at 9 AM at Woburn.
