Renowned writer and scholar Stephen Wallace, an expert at identifying teenager’s interactions with their parents when it comes to drug use and abuse, will be the featured speaker at a Charlestown Against Drugs sponsored symposium to be held October 11.

Wallace will be speaking to members, drug abuse experts, community leaders and volunteers from CHAD and from the Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition.

The symposium will be held at the Charlestown Knights of Columbus Hall at 545 Medford Street and will begin promptly at 7:00p.m.

Parents of teenage children who attend will be able to gain insight from what Wallace has to say about issues parents are all concerned with – such as – how do parents communicate better with their children; how do parents better understand their children and what exactly is it that drives adolescents to do the things they do to hurt themselves.

Wallace has an extraordinary curriculum vitae.

He has written books on youth development and is the author of the acclaimed books, “Reality Gap, Alcohol, Drugs and Sex – What Parents Don’t Know and Teens Aren’t Telling.”

Wallace will make short remarks and then open up the evening to questions from the audience.

Whenever and wherever he speaks, Wallace makes a special effort to empower parents to play an even more influential role in the choices that children make, emphasizing key parent-child communication and how to make it work for everyone involved.

“The idea of an informational speaker series is another way to forward CHAD’s mission,” said Mike Charbonnier, CHAD president. “The attempt to inform the community through education and awareness with a symposium such as this fulfills CHAD’s goals which includes assisting parents in the Charlestown community,” he added.
