Charlestown Youth Hockey Roundup – Districts

The District 1 youth hockey tournament has been going strong all week at the Charlestown rink, with a number of the Townie teams putting on great performances for the home crowds. The District tournament brings teams from all over the City region to compete for the right to advance to the State Tournament in Springfield later this winter. The stakes are high, and the teams have been battling it out.

•The Squirt 2 team was one of the biggest highlights so far this week, putting in an amazing effort to beat Winthrop in the finals, 6-2. The Squirt 2 team had a great game, with fantastic puck pursuit, special teams and overall effort. An outstanding effort in net was turned in by Goalie Leo Sutich.

•The Squirt 1 team faced a rematch of the rival Dorchester team which they had beaten earlier this month to win the Mayor’s Cup. This time, the Dorchester team showed up ready to play, and beat the Squirt 1’s on their home ice in a tough game. A great performance came from Goalie Jackson Phillips in net.

•The PeeWee 1 and 2 teams played a tough card, and ended up losing their games earlier this week.

•The U10 girls had a bye in the first round of the Districts, and were scheduled to play in the finals Wednesday night after newspaper deadlines.

•The talented and fast-skating U12 girls team under Coaches Derek Arsenault and John Sutich were scheduled to play Thursday night in the finals across cross-town rival Dorchester.

•The U14 Townie girls won their game by forfeit and will automatically advance to the State Tournament – where they will be ultra-competitive.
