What I remember most about Debbie, who was the first female “hoopster” I ever saw execute a behind-the-back dribble, was her floor leadership and court awareness. She always knew where her teammates were and made sure the player who had the highest percentage shot got the ball in her hands.
Incredibly, whenever I refereed one of her BNBL or CYO games (with either my father or brother), Debbie never once argued over any of my whistled infractions.
