Local Students Earn Academic Honors

DeBrino Graduates from RIT

John DeBrino of Charlestown graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in computer engineering. Some 4,000 degrees were conferred in the 2019-2020 academic year at all of RIT’s campuses. A virtual celebration was held May 8 at rit.edu/classof2020.

Rochester Institute of Technology is home to leading creators, entrepreneurs, innovators and researchers. Founded in 1829, RIT enrolls about 19,000 students in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs, making it among the largest private universities in the U.S.

Parent Graduates Bryant University

Bryant University is pleased to recognize the Class of 2020 who have completed their undergraduate studies to earn a Bryant University degree, one which has more value now than at any time in Bryant’s history.

Alexander Parent of Charlestown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication.

Parent joins a powerful network of more than 50,000 accomplished alumni who are inspired to excel and make a difference as leaders in organizations and communities around the world.

When our most recent alumni left campus for spring break, no one knew that their final Bryant semester would be spent adapting to the challenges of a pandemic and that public health and safety policies would cause their graduation ceremonies to be postponed.

“This crisis has revealed the character and grit of our community of scholars. I am extraordinarily proud of the entire Class of 2020,” says Provost and Chief Academic Officer Glenn M. Sulmasy, JD, LL.M. “Together with our dedicated faculty, they have worked hard to complete their Bryant education with distinction.”

Emerson College Announces 2020 Graduates

On Sunday, May 10, Emerson College awarded 959 undergraduate degrees for the Class of 2020. The College is committed to holding a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 in person when it is safe to do so, at a to be determined date.

Augustus Viveiros of Charlestown graduated in August 2020 and received a BA degree in Media Arts Production.

The College launched an Emerson 2020 Celebration website to honor graduates’ achievements with more than 800 submissions from students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff, which includes photos, videos, audio submissions, and text. The website strives to reflect the many facets of the Class of 2020 and the wider Emerson community – its creativity, daring, thoughtfulness, irreverence, and humor.

Video submissions include well wishes from well-known alumni and celebrities in the entertainment industry, including actors Jennifer Coolidge, Henry Winkler, comedians Jay Leno, Bill Burr, and Steven Wright, screenwriter Adele Lim, actress Chrystee Pharris, and producer Kevin Bright, among others.

Henry Graduates from Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School

On August 8, Joseph Henry graduated as part of the Class of 2020 at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School in Waltham, MA.

Student speakers included Valedictorian Denisa Lata and Salutatorians Benjamin Grayzel and Zhenqi “Harson” Liu, each delivering an inspirational speech to their classmates. The commencement address was delivered by poet, songwriter, author, workshop facilitator, educator, and former National Poetry Slam Individual Champion, Regie Gibson. In 2018, Gibson taught classes and facilitated workshops at CH-CH, and shared reflections on social and racial justice as the 2018 Baccalaureate Speaker for the Class of 2018.

McLaughlin Named to American International College Dean’s List  

Haley McLaughlin, of Charlestown,  has been named to the Spring 2020 Dean’s List at American International College (AIC). Dean’s List students are are full time students who have achieved a 3.3 to 4.0 GPA. The College commends the extrordinary achievement and commitment of this scholar’s accomplishment during an unprecedented time.

Founded in 1885, American International College (AIC) is a private, co-educational, doctoral granting institution located in Springfield, Massachusetts, comprising the School of Business, Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, and the School of Health Sciences. Union College Announces 2020 Dean’s List

Union College has announced its Dean’s List for the 2019-2020 academic year. Students with at least a 3.50 grade point average for the entire academic year were honored with the academic achievement.

Jennifer Williamson, of Charlestown. Williamson is a member of the Class of 2023 majoring in Computer Engineering.

Mark Williamson, of Charlestown; Williamson is a member of the Class of 2021 majoring in Economics.
