DID CHARLESTOWN’S POST OFFICE MUSIC DIRECTOR FORGET BEN E. KING?
Legendary R & B artist Ben E. King passed away on April 30. He was the unforgettable lead singer for the Drifters and solo star whose voice gave us great rhythm ‘n blues classics such as ‘Stand by Me,” “There Goes My Baby”, and of course “Spanish Harlem.”
However, as I walked into the post office two days later, I was expecting to hear some Ben. E. King. but to my surprise, I was hearing Luther Vandross instead.
I wondered what happened to John in the back, who controls the music. Many people know John or Johnny Fever as I think he should be called, probably were just as confused that day. Hey, when you are the music director for a post office, you gotta pick the right music for the day. If you don’t, they just might bring Bob Rooney out of retirement.
