Papagayo Restaurant Closing City Square Location

The popular local Mexican Food chain located in City Square will close its doors and reopen in Saugus, Mass.

Papagayo Restaurant, Legendary Restaurant Group’s Mexican themed branch with four locations in the Boston area, made the announcement this week.

According to the Legendary Restaurant Group the Charlestown location of Papagayo is setting up shop in Saugus on Route 1 South with an anticipated opening date of May/June 2015. Under the same management as Papagayo Charlestown, the new venture’s goal is to expand the popular brand to a new clientele with a similar menu and atmosphere.
The location on Route 1 South once housed the always crowded Border Cafe. The Border moved to opposite side of Route 1 several years ago. Papagayo’s new location is close to shopping centers and eateries. The 200+ seat restaurant will boast large open windows, a 30-seat bar with additional standing room for 75 people and fresh new décor. Many of the staff from the Charlestown location will be absorbed into the various locations of Papagayo.
The Papagayo in Assembly Row–two miles away from the former Charlestown location–will service guests in the Somerville/Charlestown area.

Papagayo is a concept started by Legendary Restaurant Group in 2010. The first was on Summer Street in South Boston and was the third concept developed by the group. Serving the good food, with fresh ingredients.

The Charlestown location soon followed.

Legendary Restaurant Group was started by Brad Dalbeck and Chris Damian in 2004. The two had worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years and had come together to merge their knowledge into operating restaurants in the Boston and surrounding areas.

Their first restaurant was Scollay Square, located next to the State House in Boston at 21 Beacon Street. Tavern on the Water was their next project taken on in November of 2005. Max and Dylans was their next endeavor and is named after their two sons. Sip Wine Bar is the newest concept with wine served by the sip, 1/2 glass, full glass, bottle, and surrounded by topas style plates.

The Legendary Restaurant Group also operates the Creative Palate Catering Company.
