Two Projects Get Go Ahead

The Charlestown Preservation Society Design Review Committee gave consensual approval to two projects and denied approval to one during a hearing Monday evening.

Seven members of the review committee attended the meeting. No abuttors were present at the hearing for the three projects.

According to Bill Lamb, chairman of the Design Review Committee, two projects approved were a property at 119 High Street and 24 North Mead

The first involves an addition to a structure at the rear of the building which raised no questions.

The second requires the demolition of the present structure, a water damaged single family home, and the construction of a larger replacement single family home on the same property. This project did not elicit questions, either, according to Lamb.

However, the 3rd property on the agenda Monday night, owners who wished to build a larger two-family home at a location numbered 41-43 Chappie Street did not receive an OK from the Design Review Committee.

“We recommended their appeal be denied without prejudice,” Lamb said. “There were parking issues among a few other issues,” he added.

He said the owners had agreed to revisit the project and to make necessary changes.
