Charlestown, we need your support Help bring a new affordable neighborhood grocery store, one acre of public green space, and 132 new homes to Charlestown

A new neighborhood grocery store, a full acre of publicly accessible green space, and 132 new homes are planned for Hood Park. The project has reached an important milestone, but additional approvals are still needed to move these community improvements forward.

On October 6, the Boston Civic Design Commission approved the designs for Hood Park’s next phase of development at 15 and 25 Supertest Street, including Hood Green, a new one-acre public green space. The project has also received support from the Charlestown Neighborhood Council and the Charlestown Mothers Association, reflecting the importance of new neighborhood amenities, housing, and open space.

The project is now undergoing further review by the Boston Planning Department, with Hood Park seeking approval by the end of the year.

What’s Planned for Charlestown?

• A 24,000-square-foot neighborhood grocery store at 15 Supertest Street, providing convenient access to groceries and fresh food.

• Hood Green, a new one-acre public green space, with landscaping, recreational amenities, and gathering areas that will be free and open to everyone in perpetuity.

• 132 new homes, including 20 affordable, family-sized apartments with two, three, and four bedrooms for households earning 60% of area median income.

• The first segment of the Charlestown Green Loop, creating new walking and biking connections throughout the neighborhood.

• More than 275 union construction jobs and at least 35 new grocery store jobs.

• Two all-electric, LEED Gold buildings, designed to meet Boston’s sustainability and resiliency standards.

A Plan Shaped by Community Feedback

Hood Park revised its North Block development plans in 2025 in response to community feedback, reducing the previously proposed hotel component by 50% and introducing 132 residential units into a development previously planned for commercial and hotel uses.

The new Hood Green will be fully constructed and maintained by Hood Park and will remain free and open to the public. Hood Park has committed to completing both the green space and the first segment of the Charlestown Green Loop in conjunction with 25 Supertest Street, with both required to be ready for public use before the building receives its Certificate of Occupancy.

The next phase builds on more than $250 million invested by Hood Park since 2019 in transforming over 20 acres of former industrial property into a mixed-use campus. To date, Hood Park has delivered 177 homes, including 26 permanently affordable units, created more than 600 union construction jobs, and contributed over $5 million in linkage and community benefit payments.

Charlestown, Your Voice Matters!

The plans have received design approval and support from two established Charlestown community organizations. The next step is completing the Boston Planning Department’s review process.

Hood Park is seeking approval by December 31, 2026, to advance the grocery store, public green space, new housing, and neighborhood connections.
