With the summer of ’26 at about its midpoint, Charlestown had seen a 4-percent reduction in incidents of violent and property crime from the previous year.
According to Boston Police, between Jan. 1 and July 12 of this year, 108 incidents of Part One crime were reported in Area A-15, compared to 113 during the same timeframe in 2025. This year marked also a more than 16-percent decrease in Part One crime from the district’s five-year average of 1,084 incidents.
Charlestown has seen no homicides, compared to two in ’25, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 0.6 incidents.
No rapes or attempted rapes have been reported in Charlestown either this or last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 0.6 incidents.
Robberies and attempted robberies were up 50 percent as the number climbed to nine from six incidents last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 0.6 incidents.
Incidents of domestic aggravated assault in Charlestown increased to four from three last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 7.2 incidents.
Incidents of non-domestic aggravated assault were down slightly as the number fell to 13 from 15 last year, whereas the district’s five-year average for this category was 11.2 incidents
Commercial burglaries decreased slightly, falling to five from six incidents last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 3.4 incidents.
Residential burglaries were down 50 percent as the number fell to three from six last year, while the district’s five-year average for this category was 8.4 incidents.
Incidents of larceny from a motor vehicle increased 45 percent, climbing to 29 from 20 last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 30.4 incidents.
Other larcenies were down around 20 percent as the number fell to 39 from 49 incidents last year, whereas the district’s five-year average for this category was 53 incidents.
The rate of auto thefts held steady, with six incidents reported respectively both this and last year. The district’s five-year average for this category was 7.4 incidents.
Citywide, Part One crime was up 2 percent as the number of incidents climbed to 8,533 from 8,373 last year. The city also seen a more than 5 percent increase in Part One crime incidents this year, compared to the five-year average of 8,093 incidents.
