Thank you to our DSPs for providing care, dignity to so many
To the Editor,
Since 2008, the second week of September has been designated Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week to honor the hundreds of thousands of human services workers across the country helping people live their best lives. I want to take this opportunity to thank the DSPs of North Suffolk Community Services (NSCS) for their vital contributions to our organization and our mission.
NSCS employs more than 1,000 people throughout 80 programs in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, East Boston and other local communities. More than half of these talented and compassionate individuals are DSPs, providing direct care to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, substance use and/or mental health challenges. Each day, they give the best of themselves to support our clients in their pursuit of independence, recovery, stability and community inclusion. The work is complex and demanding, but our DSPs treat all with dignity and understanding.
At NSCS, we strongly believe that our employees set us apart. This week, we publicly recognize the contributions and value of our DSPs to let both our community and our DSPs know that their NSCS colleagues, clients and families appreciate them every day.

Thank You, Gorman Family
To the Editor,
On behalf of our son Sean, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Gorman Scholarship committee. Your decades long commitment to providing financial support to Charlestown students is noteworthy and serves as a wonderful “playing it forward” example of what being a “Townie” really means. Being the recipient of such generosity from those whom we hold in such high regard is truly special and means more than you’ll ever know. Again, thank you and may GOD BLESS!

Scout Pack 0294 parent information meeting Sept. 15
To the Editor,
At the end of the last school year, a new “pack” of the Scouts of America in Charlestown, Pack 0294 was started. There are multiple students from our community in the pack.
There will be parent information session, on Monday September 15, at 5:30pm in person at St. Mary’s Parish, 46 Winthrop Street, Charlestown or online at this link: https://meet.google.com/qub-wvfn-psb. The first session with the kids will be on September 22 and all meetings will be held at St. Mary’s Parish at 5:30pm. If you haven’t been there before, there is a large gymnasium upstairs! As the weather allows, we also try to use the Training Field as much as possible for our meetings. The group meets every Monday following the BPS school calendar at 5:30-6:30pm. In Cub Scouting, parents or guardians are required to attend all meetings and activities with their scouts in the Lion (kindergarten) and Tiger (first grade) ranks, while for older Cub Scouts (Wolf through Arrow of Light), parents are encouraged to participate but are not strictly required to attend every meeting unless specifically requested or if there’s an explicit prior agreement. Throughout the year we plan to follow the Scouts of America program, obtaining the required badges, and will mix in other learning opportunities unique to Boston. More info can be found here: https://www.scouting.org/programs/cub-scouts/adventures/
We invite all boys and girls to come and attend a few meetings to see if they’d like to join!
Thank you so much,
Suzanne Santamaria
