An Amazing Turnout at Harvest on Vine
To the Editor,
Recently I was at a regular day for food distribution at Harvest on Vine (HOV). The unique aspect of that day was that the temperature broke a long-standing heat record as it was 102°. The line to access the available food was long and seemed never-ending. Staying cool with umbrellas, wide brimmed hats to cope with the heat, the recipients were patient and grateful for the offerings and a welcome hello and word from the volunteers was appreciated.
When I arrived, it was an amazing sight to see so many volunteers on hand to help, especially in the extreme heat. There was also a very vibrant group of young professional volunteers from Beth Israel hospital, stationed at the Schrafft’s center, who showed up with a great work effort, but also donations of cereal and pasta, which was well received.
HOV is a food distribution function of St. Mary’s St. Catherine ‘s parish of the Charlestown Catholic Collaborative and organized under the quiet work and humble leadership of Tom MacDonald, who has put his heart and soul into this very needy effort.
Today as we see increases in food insecurity and serious cuts in federal programs supporting local food distribution centers, they need your help more than ever. Please consider donating your time, money or food donations to HOV at https://stmarystcatherine.org/harvestonvine/ .
Your neighbors need your help.
Thank You
