On Sunday, September 18th, St. John’s Episcopal Church begins the program year with classes for children’s formation and a parish picnic. Classes for children ages 3 and up begin at 9:45 am in the Parish House, with children joining their families in church for the conclusion of the 10 am worship service. The Godly Play class for younger children, led by Rachel Pfost, provides a Montessori based classroom setting in which young children explore biblical stories and the traditions and sacraments of the Christian faith. The class for older students, led by Simon Ringrose, explores the biblical texts heard each week in the worship service. Nursery Care for infants and toddlers is also provided every Sunday for the 10 am service.
The Children’s Choir, under the direction of Nancy Armstrong, will hold its first rehearsal on Sunday the 18th, meeting at 9:15 upstairs in the Parish House. We welcome new children to join us! The 10 am service on the 18thh will also feature the return of the St. John’s Adult Choir. The choir’s first rehearsal is Thursday, September 15th at 7:30 pm in the Parish House. Douglas Witte, Organist and Choirmaster of the parish, welcomes all who are interested in singing to join the choir for its first rehearsal.
To celebrate the beginning of the program year, a picnic in the Cutler Memorial Garden behind the church will follow the 10 am service. The parishioners of St. John’s, and their rector, the Rev. Thomas Mousin, invite all in the community to join them in a new year of being formed in faith, fellowship, and friendship.
