Letter to the Editor

Thanks firefighters

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Braaten family, victims of the Bunker Hill Street fire on July 21, we’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to members of the Charlestown community for rallying around our friends during their day of crisis. Firefighters, police, first responders, The Red Cross and neighbors provided immediate help, and merchants came through generously: Larry at Bunker Hill Florist offered a free, beautiful bouquet that brightened up the room where the Braatens set up that night at the Marriott Residence Inn, which is only charging $45 per night. And Katie at Ironside Grill provided a much-needed, complimentary dinner after a long day without food.  Then at CVS, Charlestown resident Lauren Donovan offered to pay for toiletries. I am sure I am missing others. Meanwhile, Ellen lost everything, and due to a recent divorce, her insurance lapsed. If you would like to contribute to her relief fund: http://gofundme.com/helpellenrebuild

Don and Sarah McMillan,

 72 Warren St.,
