Richard Burke

Volunteer sailing instructor with long career in Boston commerical real estate

Richard J. Burke of Charlestown died on June 2..

The son of Martin and Mary Burke of Medford by way of Galway and Sneem, Ireland, he was a 1960 graduate of Boston College and proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He went on to have a long career in commercial real estate in Boston and spent many happy years as a volunteer sailing instructor at the Courageous Sailing Center on Boston Harbor.

Mr. Burke was the former husband of Lillian (Callahan) Burke of Winchester; loving father of Jacqueline Curtin and her husband, Robert of Winchester and Richard Burke and his wife, Jacqueline of Alexandria, VA; brother of Maureen White of Burlington and the late Rita McDonough; cherished grandfather of Alix, Sam, Hannah Curtin and Auggie, Cal, Reid and Christian Burke.

Funeral arrangements  were by the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville. Interment will be private at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richards’s memory to the Marine Corp Scholarship Fund, www.mcsf.org/donate.
