Boston’s Fall Leaf collection will begin on Monday, October 13, and take place through Saturday, November 29. Boston Public Works Department (PWD) will collect and compost residents’ leaves and yard waste.
In April 2014, Mayor Walsh announced that PWD was expanding its Leaf and Yard Waste Collection program to include weeks during June, July, August, and September. During collection time periods, the PWD collects residents’ yard waste placed during their recycling day curbside and it will be composted. Since the start of the program expansion, over 1,000 tons of yard waste has been saved from the trash and composted.
Yard waste collection instructions:
Place leaves and yard debris in large paper leaf bags or open barrels labeled “yard waste” (no plastic bags). Yard waste stickers for barrels are available by calling 617-635-4500, or by request online at: http://www.cityofboston.gov/mayor/24?topic=yardwastesticker.
Tie branches with string: 3’ maximum length, 1” maximum diameter. Do not put branches in barrels.
Barrels, bags and branches should be placed on curb by 7:00 a.m. on recycling day during the week. Leaf collection for residents with more than one recycling day will take place on their first recycling day of the week.
