Walter Gordon

Owned Jenny’s Pizza

Walter ‘Butch’ Gordon of Charlestown died on Nov. 6.

A US Navy veteran of the Korean War and the late owner of Jenny’s Pizza, he was the beloved husband and best friend for 49 years of Geraldine (Francis) Gordon; devoted father of Cheryl Lynn Gordon of South Carolina, Shannon Gordon of Medford, Stephanie McSharry of New Hampshire, and the late Shawn Gordon; stepfather of the late Vikki and Stacy Broussard; beloved grandfather of Michael, Tyler, Bryanna, Emily, Stevie and Tylar and is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Interment was private.  In lieu of flowers remembrances in Butch’s name may be made to Special Townies, 336 Main St., Charlestown, MA 02129 or The Charlestown Boys and Girls Club, 15 Green St., Charlestown, MA 02129.

Mary O’Halloran

Charlestown Resident

Mary L. (O’Donnell) Halloran of Charlestown died on Nov. 12.

The beloved wife of the late Patrick F. O’Halloran, she was the devoted mother of Maryann Pulliam of Billerica, Patty Silvestro-Williams and her husband, Frank of Tewksbury, Gracie Saccardo of Charlestown and Martin J. O’Halloran of Everett; loving grandmother of seven and  great grandmother of three; beloved sister of Jack O’Donnell and his wife, Dottie, Dorothy Eagan and her husband, Dan, James O’Donnell, Evelyn Collier and her husband, Bob, Joseph O’Donnell, Kay Heeter and her husband, Tom and the late Ann Yandle and her late husband, John, the late Grace Stella and her surviving husband, Bill and loving aunt of several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, Charlestown. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Lillian Douglas-McLean

Well Known Businesswoman

Lillian M. (Bevens) Douglas-McLean of Revere, formerly of Winthrop and Charlestown, died peacefully with her children at her side at Eastpointe Skilled Nursing & Rehab., Chelsea on November 11. She was 90 years young.

Over her very active 90 years, she owned and managed a number of businesses including the Charlestown Beauty Salon, Charlestown, The Surfside 16 Restaurant, Winthrop, Douglas Motor Coach, Winthrop, and Douglas Realty of Revere.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Douglas; devoted mother of Mary McLean of Everett, Ann (McLean) Herrick of Revere, Nancy (McLean-Picardi) Crombie, William “Billy” McLean and Judith “Judy” McLean, all of Winthrop; stepmother of Aurelia Robson of Derry, NH, and the late Edwina “Cookie” Cyr of Somerville; sister of Dorothea Giddings of Wilmington and the late Elizabeth Woodman and Barbara Russo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Joseph Friedman

Charlestown resident

Joseph Friedman of Charlestown, formerly of Needham, died on Nov. 7. He was 60 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Rosemary Edgerly; devoted father of Rachel and Adam Friedman; loving son of Shirley (Richter) and the late Arthur Friedman; dear brother of Barry Friedman and his wife, Anne and cherished uncle of Matthew and Andrew Friedman.

Funeral arrangements were by Levine Chapels, Brookline. Burial was at Lindwood Memorial Park, Randolph. Remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Cathy Jean Stack

Of New York, formerly of Charlestown

Cathy Jean Stack of Hopkinton, NY, formerly of Charlestown, died on Nov. 10 after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Lane) Stack; beloved sister of Daniel P. Stack and his wife, Imogene, William L. Stack and his wife, Carol, Michael E. Stack and his wife, Karen and Thomas E. Stack and his wife, Christine. She was the loving aunt of Danielle and Richard Wagonblott, William, Alice, Edward, Meaghan, Michael, Brendan, Trevor, Monica, Thomas and Mary Stack and great aunt to Abigail and Dayton.

Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Greatorex

Dorothy F. “Dottie” (Keniston) Greatorex of Everett, formerly of Charlestown, died on Nov. 11.

A 27 year employee of the Head Start Program, she was the beloved wife of 51 years of James “Froggy” Greatorex; devoted mother of James “Jimbo” Greatorex and his wife, Michelle, John “Jacko” Greatorex and his wife, Sandra, Paula Zoukhri and her husband, Noureddine and the late Karen and Dorothy Greatorex; loving grandmother of Casey Dolaher, Matthew, Jaime and Emma Rose Greatorex; loving great-grandmother of Avery Libby; beloved daughter of the late William and Dorothy Keniston; devoted sister of Jack O’Callahan, Mary Lacey, William Keniston, Peggy O’Brien and the late Margaret Mullen, James O’Callahan, Cornelius and William O’Callahan; loving friend of Paul “Devil” Mahoney and very special niece of Margaret O’Callahan. She was the devoted aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Sue ‘Sammie’ Montgomery

Former State House Employee

Sue A. “Sammie” Montgomery, a resident of Charlestown, formerly of Somerville and Melrose, died on November 7. She was 63 years old.

A graduate of Merrimack College, prior to her retirement in 2008, she worked for First State Management Group and from 2008 to 2010, she worked at the State House for Senate President Therese Murray. She was a supporter of Save the Children, Home for Little Wanderers and Catholic Charities.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Rose (Murphy) and George “Monty” Montgomery and the sister of the late Robert Montgomery. She was also the sister-in-law of Rita Kountz of Wellesley and the niece of the late Marion Murphy, James, Edward, Frank, John, Arthur, Joseph, and Thomas Murphy. She was the dear cousin of Sr. Rita Murphy, SND of Winchester and the aunt of Brian Montgomery, his wife, Megan and their sons, Benjamin and Samuel, all of Longmeadow and Jill Montgomery of California. She is also survived by many loving Murphy cousins and several devoted and cherished friends.

Miriam English

Retired Home Health Aide

Miriam A. (Sloan) English of Charlestown died on November 8. She was 75 years old.

A retired North Shore Home Health Aide, she was the beloved mother of James Patrick English and his spouse, Jacquie Rafferty, Frances V. English and her spouse, Philip Polizzi, Wanda Lee English and Christopher J. English and his spouse, Darlene Sampson; loving grandmother of seven and great grandmother of five.

Joseph ‘Dukie’ Depauw

Worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft

Joseph V. “Dukie” Depauw died peacefully at home on Oct. 22 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Somerville on August 7, 1950, son of Barbara Dugan Depauw of Somerville and the late Vincent Joseph Depauw of Charlestown, he was also preceded in death by his grandmother Granny Depauw.

He graduated from Don Bosco High School, served in the Army Reserves and worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in CT for more than 35 years. He enjoyed backpacking, hunting and fishing and mostly liked the pleasure of sharing some quality time with his friends.

At his side, was his longtime friend and companion, Sharon Robinson, also of Wallingford, CT. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two children, Joseph Jr. and Diana Depauw. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Jake, Devin, Dean, Jared, Deja Lyn, Domenick and Abby Depauw. They will miss their Grandpa very much. He will be lovingly missed by his ex-spouse Anita Serino Depauw. He was my best friend. He also is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind a cherished close family friend, Rose Donnelly of Haverhill. He will be sorely missed by all those who loved him and knew how good a person he was.

A Mass was held at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Somerville. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to the Wallingford Wishing Well where he was a volunteer. The Wallingford Wishing Well is an organization devoted to the benefit and well being of needy Wallingford children.
