Virginia M. “Ginger” Leonard

Retired Boston City Hospital Heart Technician

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Friday, September 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere for Virginia M. “Ginger” Leonard, who passed away unexpectedly on September 13th at 80 years of age. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 12 noon, followed by interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Virginia, affectionately known as “Ginger”, was born and raised in Charlestown attending St. Mary’s Grammar School in Charlestown and graduating from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Brighton. Ginger remained a proud and lifelong resident of Charlestown and moved to Malden only a year ago. She worked for many years as a heart technician at Boston City Hospital until her retirement.

Ginger had a great love for animals, and she was an avid reader who made it a priority to always be learning new things and keeping her mind sharp. She was very talented with handcraft and especially proficient in knitting and needlepoint.

She will be missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was the beloved daughter of the late John F. and Virginia M. (McLaughlin) Leonard; devoted sister of John Francis Leonard, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Winthrop, Richard J. Leonard and his wife, Mary Beth of Chesterfield, VA, Robert F. Leonard and his wife. Carol of Estero, Florida, Paul G. Leonard and his wife, Donna of Winthrop, Holly Leyden and her husban, Peter of Malden, James C. Leonard of Winthrop and the late Merry Dorney and Gregory Leonard and his surviving wife, Denise. She was the best friend of Jan Mastrocola of Malden and the cherished aunt of 19 nieces and nephews. She is also lovingly survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.
