Letter to the Editor

‘Laughter Heals’ Comedy Night set for Nov. 7

To the Editor,

My wife, Maribeth McKenzie, started the Maura Wilkins Foundation last year. Since then, the foundation has been able to provide funding for numerous individuals with alcohol and substance abuse addictions to attend recovery retreats and programs, helping them strengthen their recovery and prevent relapses.

Maribeth and her board organize and run affordable day and overnight retreats, workshops, sober dinners, and fellowship activities with a group of dedicated volunteers who have long-term sobriety. These activities offer a safe place to share experiences, strength, and hope, and to give and receive support and friendship.

They collaborate with the Gavin Foundation and invite individuals from sober homes and halfway houses to attend free of charge. These activities provide these individuals with the opportunity to meet other people in recovery.  Listening to personal stories of recovery and learning how others avoid triggers and cope with environmental cues or social stresses without resorting to alcohol or other drugs can be incredibly helpful on the path to healing.

The Maura Wilkins Foundation fundraiser, the “Laughter Heals” Comedy Night, is crucial for us. It’s on Thursday, November 7, at Florian Hall in Dorchester, MA.

Your presence and support at this event would mean a lot to us and the individuals we aim to help. I hope you can make it and support this great organization.

On Sunday September 22,  Anthony’s Dream held Sodie’s Sunday Funday from 12:00- 5:00 at the Charlestown Knight’s of Colombus. The event was held to help a family dealing with Medical surgeries and more to come. We would like to thank the Knights, all of the people that came and supported the family through their generous donations and words of encouragement. The Sodagren and Gorman families. Who donated the raffle baskets. They were amazing to say the least. Kevin McMasters , Smokey Cain, Natalie Mangrum, Susan Rooney for donating their time and skills to a Funday. a special shout out to Aubrey Fornash who handled the kids events. Great job Aubrey ! Once again Charlestown responded to a family in need.
