The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a Ryan Playground Design Meeting virtually on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m.

Discussion on Race and Equity in Charlestown

Charlestown Coalition will hold its monthly Race & Equity Discussion on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 5:30  p.m. at the Charlestown Peace Park.

This series explores important topics about the impact of race, policing in urban settings, and equity. It is open to all members of the Charlestown community and the general public. We will continue meeting in person the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Peace Park.

This forum is being co-sponsored by the Charlestown Coalition, Turn It Around Youth Program, and City-Councilor Lydia Edwards and her team.

 In the event of rain, this will become a virtual event on Zoom.

Charlestown Youth Soccer Association Needs Coaches

Charlestown Youth Soccer Association is looking for Head and Assistant coaches to help coach youth travel teams for the Fall 2021 season.  We have coaching spots available for Grade 3/4 teams (Girls only) , Grade 5/6 teams (boys and girls) and Grade 7/8 teams (boys and girls). Your commitment includes managing two practices  (1 hour and 15 minutes) per week  with a game on Saturdays. Curriculum will be provided on a weekly basis by a team of professional coaches and you will have support from Age Group Coordinators assigned to your team. 

Partner up with work friends to coach, have fun coaching the sport you love and and make a difference in a young person’s life!

Harvest on Vine Food Pantry Appeal

The Food Pantry has had a great need at this time as it has been very busy serving many more residents in town and providing more frequent distributions. Donations of all non-perishable foods are greatly appreciated. Donations drops are: Food Pantry, 49 Vine St. (Hayes Square), The Cooperative Bank – 201 Main St. or the Parish Center – 46 Winthrop St. (by the Training Field). Art in the Park – Saturday, September 11

Art in the Park, sponsored by The Artists Group of Charlestown returns to City Square Park on Saturday, September 11.  Join the celebration from 10:00am to 5:30pm.  Explore the work of  AGC members and other area artists from the area from 10am to 5:30pm. This is a great opportunity  to support living artists and neighborhood cultural events.  Rain date Sunday, September 12.

Charlestown Navy Yard Concert Series

The Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard host The Harvard Alumni Jazz Band on Monday, September 13 at 6pm at The Anchor, at Shipyard Park. Guests are asked to follow current COVID guidelines for safety. Further information in case of inclement weather can be found online at www.friendscny.org

Join the Bunker Hill Day Parade Committee

The Bunker Hill Day Parade Committee is looking for volunteers to help with the 2022 parade. If you are new to town, this is a great way to meet your neighbors and the people who make things happen in Charlestown!  Want to join the committee? Bruins Academy – Learn-to-play Hockey Program

The Boston Bruins will return its Learn-to-Play Hockey program to Charlestown this fall.  Charlestown Youth Hockey will be hosting and staffing the program.  The program is available to boys and girls ages 5-9 that have not participated in an organized hockey program before.  Sign-up will be September 9th at the Bruins website.  This four-week program will be at 10am on Saturdays from October 16th to November 6th.  Please visit the “Bruins Academy” tab at the Charlestown Youth Hockey website (CYHA.COM) for early registration.  This program is limited to 50 kids per session and will fill up quickly. 

Friends of City Square Park Concert for September

Don’t miss the Dirty Water Brass Band at City Square Park on Wednesday, September 15 from 5:30 – 7pm.

Rain date is Thursday the 14th.

September is Recovery Month

The Charlestown Coalition invites the neighborhood to celebrate recovery month all through with activities and events to raise awareness and to help those in need of help and hope in the community.
