Waterfront Patio Opening at the USS Constitution Museum

On Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1-4 p.m., join the USS Constitution Museum in celebrating the grand opening of the Museum’s Waterfront Patio – a community space at the base of Dry Dock #2, on the Baxter Road side, in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Through Our Eyes Camera Return this Weekend

Harvest on Vine Food Pantry

The Harvest on Vine Food Pantry is requesting boxes of cereal again this week.  Any donation of non-perishable foods that you could make would also be greatly appreciated.

Donations can be dropped off at the Food Pantry at 49 Vine St. (Hayes Square), The Cooperative Bank at 201 Main St. and at the Parish Center on 46 Winthrop St. (across from the Training Field).  Financial donations can be sent to: Harvest on Vine, Parish Center, 46 Winthrop St., Charlestown, MA 02129. Mark & Michelle Gorman Scholarship

This year $7,500 in scholarships will be awarded to eligible students. All Charlestown residents who are entering Pre-K through college are eligible. Students must be enrolled in a school where tuition is paid for the 2019-2020 school year.In addition to Charlestown students, donors to the 20th Anniversary celebration on Sept. 7, are also able to submit one entry of a child of their choice who is enrolled in Pre-K through college at a school where tuition is paid. Send an email to [email protected], please include:Student’s full name and address, school and grade.

If the student does not live in Charlestown, please include the name of the donor who is submitting the entry.

Entries will also be acceptes at the 20th Anniversary celebration at the Knights of Columbus in Charlestown up to 9 pm.

St Mary – St. Catherine of Siena Religious Education Registration is Open

Navy Yard September Fun

Save the dates for these two free events planned in the Navy Yard.

On Sept.  8, don’t miss the Charlestown Chowderfest from 12 – 6 p.m. at The Anchor – Shipyard Park. Local restaurants will be competing for the title of Charlestown’s Best Chowder along with other family fun activities. On Sept. 12, the fun continues with Mike Bent’s Abrakidabra magic show, followed by a performance from the Harvard Alumni Jazz Band. The magic starts at 5:45 p.m. with the band taking over at 6:30 p.m.  There will also be Face painting by Kathia and Food Trucks. Rain date is the following day for both events. Ctowncycle Fallfest

Saturday, Sept. 7 from 8 a.m. to 12:30p.m. check out Ctowncycle’s Fallfest at 20 City Square. Free rides and a rider workshop at ctowncycle, sidewalk sale featuring local business and charity raffles will all be part of the fun. For more info visit ctowncycle.com.

Annual Art in The Park is Back!

The Artists Group of Charlestown (AGC) is happy to announce that our annual Art in the Park is back on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, City Square Park from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Artists from Charlestown and neighboring Boston area will exhibit art work, jewelry, ceramics, crafts, and sculpture under festive tents. Live music will fill the park along with raffle chances for artwork by participating artists. Rain date is Sunday Sept. 15th. Don’t miss it!

Gorman Scholarship Fund 10th Anniversary Time

Be at the Knights on September 7th to help celebrate 10 years of fundraising for educational scholarships. This year the party starts at 7pm and will have Irish music from Erin Og and Smokey Cain DJ, 50/50 and door prizes and $7500 in scholarships to be awarded. Bobby Powers at Library

Charlestown’s own Bobby Powers returns to Charlestown Branch Library, 179 Main St., for an evening of poetry and stories on Monday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. He will be reading from his latest book, Charlestown: A Cornerstone of America, Volume II. Celebrate Charlestown’s proud history, way of life, and memorable personalities with Bobby.


ISEE Prep Class

Charlestown Lacrosse & Learning Center (CLLC) is once again hosting an annual ISEE Prep-Class for 6th grade students during the 2019-2020 school year. There are two options for the class, either on Thursdays or Fridays, both from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Learning Center at 14 Green St., starting the week of Sept. 9.  Space is extremely limited, so register now at www.charlestownlacrosse.com/registration or by calling the center at (617) 242-1813. 

Music and Art Labs at Essem Art Studio

Students explore age/level appropriate mediums through guided activities and graduate to more complex mediums over time. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

On Mondays labs combine music and movement, singalong, and art time for little artists (5 and under). Art Activities will occasionally incorporate lessons in letter, number, and color recognition in a loose and fun way.

Wednesday Art Labs are open to all ages and projects will be modified according to age groups and abilities. In these sessions, the full hour will be dedicated to arts and crafts. If the available Art Labs don’t work with your schedule, families can coordinate to have private art play dates with their little ones. City Square Park Concert Series

The City Square Park 2019 Summer Concert Series wraps up with only one event left for this year. Sponsored and supported by the Charlestown Mothers Association, Gibson Sotheby’s International Real Estate, Friends of City Square Park, and Rick DuBard’s Foundation. This summer’s series ends on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm with Henry Acker, a fourteen-year-old gypsy jazz guitarist with abilities far beyond his years. Rain date will be for the following day

Charlestown Fall Soccer 

Charlestown Youth Soccer registration for the Fall 2019 season is open at http://register.charlestownsoccer.com for children entering grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.  Grades 3 and up are placed on travel teams.  A placements evaluation will be conducted in early June to help us determine appropriate team assignments – see http://charlestownsoccer.com for details. Register early to avoid being waitlisted! 

Gym Hockey Registration Day

Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mishawum Park Community Room, 95 Dunstable Street. The 2019/2020 season schedules and team jerseys will be distributed. Bruins Academy Learn-to-Play

Charlestown Youth Hockey will be hosting and staffing the Boston Bruins Learn-to-Play Hockey program again this fall.  The program is for boys and girls ages 4-9 that have not participated in an organized hockey program before.  It will run from Saturday, Oc. 12th to Saturday, Nov. 2nd.  There will be two sessions, one at 10am and one at 11am.  Public registration at the Bruins website.  More info on the “Bruins Academy” tab at CYHA.COM.
