Letter to the Editor

THANK YOU

Dear Editor:

The Harvest on Vine Food Pantry wants to thank our friends and neighbors for their overwhelming generosity toward our friends at the Charlestown National Parks Service, government employees and Coast Guard during the recent Federal Government shut-down. Without receiving a paycheck for many weeks, among their financial commitments that were going unpaid, their cupboards were running bare and their refrigerators empty.

Through your kindness, we were able to supply them with fresh vegetables, milk, juice, eggs, bread, fresh pork, chicken, hamburg, hot dogs and an abundance of canned goods, adding up to a total of 3,700 pounds being distributed. Their gratitude was evident through the smiles on their faces, handshakes and hugs given to the volunteers on hand to assist them.

It is our sincere hope that these men and women will not be put into this situation again, but rest assured if another shut-down occurs, we here in Charlestown, through your continued generosity, will be here to help them.

Sincerely,Tom MacDonald, Director
