ISEE PREP CLASS   AT THE CLLC

This fall, the Charlestown Lacrosse & Learning Center (CLLC) will once again be hosting our annual ISEE Prep-Class for sixth-grade students during the 2018-2019 school year.  Any and all students are welcome to join, but space is extremely limited.  The class is held on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and will be hosted at our Learning Center building located at 14 Green Street. The program is schedule for 8 classes, starting on Thurs. 9/13 and ending on Thurs. 11/1.  The cost of the class is $799 and covers the testing materials, practice exams, and pays for our wonderful teachers!  As always, scholarships are available upon request.  Space is extremely limited, so register now at www.charlestownlacrosse.com/registration or by calling the center at (617) 242-1813!

CHARLESTOWN & BEYOND TV SHOW

No show this week but you can catch last week’s program on Facebook at Charlestown & Beyond, Youtube at Charlestown and Beyond or going to: https://youtu.be/75bEUNLROMA Charlestown & Beyond appears on the Boston Neighborhood Network – BNN-TV Comcast channel 9, RCN channel 15 and Verizon channel 1961 every other Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Reruns can be seen on the same TV stations on Thursday at 11:30 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.   The next scheduled program will be seen on June 28th. To contact host Kathy “Cookie” Giordano go to [email protected] or call her at 617-447-1406. HARVEST ON VINE FOOD PANTRY

The Harvest on Vine Food Pantry this week is requesting bags of rice and cans of ravioli, two of the most popular items that fill the shelves. Any donation on non-perishable foods that you could make would also be greatly appreciated.Donations can be dropped off at the Food Pantry at 49 Vine St. (Hayes Square), The Cooperative Bank at 201 Main St. and at the Parish Center on Winthrop St. (across from the Training Field).  Financial donations can be sent to: Harvest on Vine, Parish Center, 46 Winthrop St., Charlestown, MA 02129. PEACE PARK DEDICATION       JUNE 26

On Tuesday, June 26, there will bean unveiling ceremony on Charlestown’s Peace Park at the Mt. Vernon Street Plaza. The ceremony will be followed by a community-wide Walk for Peace and inspirational dinner. Meet at 4:30 pm at the Mt. Vernon Street Plaza for a blessing of the park, a few brief statements by residents and organizations involved in the revitalization and a few short words from the niece of Robert McGrath (for whom the park is dedicated).After the ceremony, there will be a walk throughout the community  ending at  the Knights of Columbus on Medford St. All are welcome for dinner, music and a short speaking program from 6 to 8 pm. For more information contact Sarah Coughlin at the Charlestown Coalition [email protected]

LOCAL RESIDENT RAISING MONEY FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION

Justyne Collier, local resident of Charlestown, whose brother committed suicide in 2004, is working to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She will be joined by her extended family, also long-time Charlestown residents, when she participates in the “Out of the Darkness Walk” in Wakefield in September. SUMMER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION IN THE NAVY YARD

Please join Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard and the Charlestown Mothers Association at “A Summer Solstice Celebration” magic show and food truck picnic on June 21, 2018 at from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in Shipyard Park, Charlestown Navy Yard. Once again Mike Bent’s Abrakidabra will delight the audience at this fun family event.  Co-sponsored by the Boston Planning and Development Agency and the Navy Yard Garden Association, who also invites you to welcome The Big Dog Show exhibit to the Navy Yard.

TAPAS IN THE GARDEN AT ST. JOHN’S CHURCH

The garden committee of St. John’s Church on Devens Street is sponsoring A Tapas Evening on Thursday, June 28, from 6-8 p.m.   The event will be held in the award -winning Cutler Garden behind the parish house and the church.

Tapas and other surprises will be served and in the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the parish house.   The suggested donation for the event is $25.
