Jr. Bruins Boucher and Delvalle in International Pee Wee Tournament
Staff Report
The Tournoi International de Hockey Pee-Wee de Quebec will take place from February 9, 2017 to February 19, 2017 in Quebec City, Canada. Aidan Boucher and Owen Delvalle, both of Charlestown, will compete in this international tournament representing the Greater Boston Junior Bruins. Some of the all-time great names of hockey such as Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Patrick Roy, as well as current NHL players Steven Stamkos, Johnny Gaudreau, Jacob Trouba, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kevin Hayes of the New York Rangers have all participated in this event early in their careers. Charlestown has been well represented in this elite tournament in the past by former Bruin and Merrimack All American Jim Vesey as well as the following Junior Bruins Charlestown residents: John Grzelcyk, Michael Doe, Dan McGoff, Cam Delvalle and Nolan Doherty.
Defenseman Aidan Boucher is the son of Leo & Diane Boucher. Left wing Owen DelValle is the son of Marc & Gina Delvalle. Aidan and Owen are very proud and honored to be representing the City of Boston and especially the Charlestown neighborhood in Canada. This year’s team is also comprised of players from Allston-Brighton, Brookline, Dedham, Natick, Needham, Newton, Parkway and Wellesley.
The Boston Junior Bruins team will be competing against teams from the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia during the 10 day tournament, which is expected to attract over 200,000 spectators to the Videotron Center in Quebec City. The Games will be televised on national television throughout Canada.
The purpose of the tournament is to provide the players with an international competitive hockey experience AND a cultural exchange experience. The Tournament affords the players an opportunity to make new friends and to gain insight into Canadian – American lifestyles and values. Players will be staying with French-Canadian families during their visit to Quebec City and will be exposed to many facets of Canadian heritage, including the French language.
The trip is very expensive, with the Boston team alone needing to raise $45,000 for the trip. To achieve the $45,000 goal, Aidan and Owen will be soliciting contributions from local merchants and residents.
If you would like to make a donation, the players and the organization would greatly appreciate any contribution. You may make your Non-Profit, Tax Deductible contribution payable to the Boston Junior Bruins. Donations may also be sent or given to the Boucher Family (135 High St) or the Delvalle Family (66 Ferrin St.) or c/o Michael Cashman, 28 Sanderson Place, Brighton, MA 02135. (Tax ID # 46-3797257)
