Kaela Winer and Giulia Fenton lower Ronald Messier into a sailboat during last Saturday’s (Sept. 12) adaptive sailing program. Messier is bound to a wheelchair, but he said sailing gives him a new freedom to move around on the water. Messier and 125 others were able to take to the water in the adaptive sailing program at Courageous Sailing in the Navy Yard. The program has run for five years and is a partnership between Courageous Sailing, Charlestown Waterfront Coalition, Spaulding Rehab, Pier’s Park Sailing in Eastie, and the BRA. This was Messier’s fourth time out, and he said he plans to return.
