Track coach lands medals in Masters

Sean Nyhan of Charlestown had amazing indoor track season this winter and complements his achievements in taking the Town Track Club to two consecutive National Jr. Olympics events. This set high marks for the future of the Town Track Club.

First was the New Balance Grand Prix, Running an Invitational only Indoor Masters Mile, up against the best competition around, including a former Olympian, Sean held his own and ran a 4:39 to take 10th place.

A few weeks later Sean was invited to run at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships, this is the showcase for all Olympic caliber runners so it was such an honor to race. Sean completed the 1500 M in 4.12 for a 6th place slot.

The third and final race of the Indoor season landed Sean an invitation to the National Masters Indoor Championships that took place on March 21-22 in Wake Forest North Carolina. In a heated Mile race he took Silver for his age group with 4:38. This accomplishment was also accommodated by Sean’s 800 M bronze medal with 2:09.

Sean is the founder and coach of Charlestown’s Town Track Club. Town track Club is a non-profit organization open to participants of all ages and levels.   Founded with the mission to encourage and enhance running at all levels, the focus of the club is running as a lifelong pursuit, team competition, sportsmanship, and increasing personal fitness levels. Currently Sean and others are training for the Boston Marathon and 6 of his teammates are running specifically for raising funds for Town Track Programming.

Sean has run competitively throughout most of his life, beginning as an state championship high schooler, Racing for the UCSB’s Gauchos and continuing his love of running in any race between a mile and a marathon. The Spring/Summer season of Youth Track and Field begins in May and runs into August with a Junior Olympic program. In the Fall the Youth Track runners join x-country for Youth 5-18.
