Attend the Casino Meeting on March 26

Growing up in the 1960s, a popular show on television was Dragnet, where the main character Sergeant Joe Friday would always say, “Just the facts, ma’am.”

For many Charlestown residents and organizations, the facts are what are missing from the Wynn Resort proposal in Everett.  There seems to be a huge chasm between the claims of Wynn officials that say that this proposal is a huge benefit to Charlestown and the residents who want the answers on issues like public safety, transportation impacts with additional cars on our already congested  streets, and enviromental concerns about the cleanup of the contaminated site.

The Charlestown Neighborhood Council is set to submit a letter to the Massachuesetts Gaming Commission (MCG) opposing Wynn Resort “as currently proposed.”  The Charlestown Preservation Society (CPS) is urging residents to attend the hearing on March 26 or send letters.  In an email CPS says,  “Now is the time to act to stop approval of a hideous building that will turn Charlestown into the gridlocked primary motor vehicle conduit for the Wynn/Everett casino just over the Mystic River.”

This first meeting by the MGC calls for community input into the project.  We urge all residents who can go on the March 26 date to go to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in South Boston starting at 4 p.m.

This proposal will affect Charlestown.  Do not let apathy or relying on someone else to do the job of presenting your views.
