Charlestown Against Drugs (CHAD) held it’s Second Annual Turkey Trot races for children and their parents on Saturday, November 23rd at the Charlestown High School athletic field. Over fifty families turned out on the sunfilled but blustery windy morning in hopes of winning a turkey for their Thanksgiving holiday dinner. The children also enjoyed face painting, balloon figures, dancing and an assortment of refreshments including hot and cold apple cider, cookies and turkey sandwiches complete with stuffing and cranberry sauce.
Rep. Eugene “Gene” O’Flaherty was on hand cheering on the racers as well as helping out at the refreshment table. CHAD Committee members, headed up by co-chairs Billy Boyle and Mike Charbonnier and officers from the Boston Police Department Area A-1 under the direction of their new commanding officer Captain James Hasson worked together to produce the sucessful event. The Committee thanks their benefactors Whole Foods and Jenny’s Pizza for helping out with donating the refreshments and the participants for contributing over $800 to Harvest on Vine to help out with their annual Thanksgiving Dinner give aways for over 650 Charlestown families.
