CNC to Host Meeting on Ropewalk Building

The Charlestown Neighborhood Council will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, May 8th at 7 pm at the new Spaulding Hospital Community Meeting Room, for the purpose of hearing preliminary development concepts for the Ropewalk Building, as presented by Mr. Joseph Timilty and his development team.

The Ropewalk Building is considered the most historically significant building in the Navy Yard, as the only remaining building of its type in the United States, and one of only four in the world. The redevelopment of the Ropewalk Building will involve approval of numerous city, state and federal agencies, including the National Parks Service under the United States Department of the Interior, who are responsible for the historic preservation requirements for this type of building.

Mr. Timilty is proposing a development to include approximately 69 rental housing units and a small museum area. The project includes the adaptive reuse of the entire Ropewalk Building as well as the adjacent structures that are connected to the Ropewalk Building by overhead walkways. The proposed project does not include on-site parking.

The presentation will include information regarding the proposed development as well as information regarding the development process required for any redevelopment of an historic building of this type.

Paid parking is available in the Spaulding garage for those attending the meeting.
