On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, Wheelock College will host its third biennial Passion for Action Leadership Award Dinner at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum from 6 to 9pm. Dr. Carol R. Johnson, Superintendent of Boston Public Schools, and Dr. Linda N. Nathan, Founder and Co-Headmaster of Boston Arts Academy, will be honored with the 2011 Passion for Action Leadership Award. The event will feature a keynote address by Karen Keating Ansara, Co-Founder of the Haiti Fund at the Boston Foundation.

The Passion for Action Leadership Award Dinner celebrates the spirit of the College through its students and those who support its mission. Honorees of previous Passion for Action events were Chris Gabrieli (2007) and The Lowell Family (2009) for their contributions to the Boston community.

Dr. Carol R. Johnson, a Charlestown resident, has been the Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools since August 2007. As Superintendent of Boston’s 56,000 students, she also serves a cabinet member for Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino. Dr. Johnson has a wealth of experience in public education as a teacher, principal, and administrator.

Dr. Johnson’s mantra in Memphis, that she brought to Boston is, Every Child. Every Day. College Bound., captures her belief in equity and access to quality education for all children, regardless of their race, gender, family income, IQ score, ethnicity, handicapping condition or learning disability, and serves as a force for excellence in preparing children for post-secondary education.

“We are thrilled to be honoring two distinguished members of our community,” said Jackie Jenkins-Scott, President of Wheelock College. “These two women exemplify the Passion for Action Leadership Award as well the College. Both honorees, as well as our keynote speaker, have made positive and long lasting impressions on the lives of children.”
