Friendly’s Files for Bankruptcy; Charlestown Location to Close

Charlestown’s Friendly’s is being closed, it has been revealed.

The doors are now locked and everyone working there has lost their job.

Friendly’s officials said it is one of 30 underperforming locations to be closed in Massachusetts.

The company has filed for bankruptcy in order to reorganize itself, to streamline the operation and to give it new momentum in order to save it.

By filing, the company has sought protection from its creditors in order to emerge from bankruptcy in a more competitive position.

The 76-year-old family dining chain employs about 10,000, this includes about 20 full and part time employees in the Charlestown location in the mall.

“We have embarked on an aggressive campaign to enhance restaurant operations, improve the guest experience, strengthen our team and expand the company’s successful retail ice cream business,” said Harsha Agadi, chairman and CEO of Friendly’s.
