The Boston Fire Department dedicated their new 70’ high speed aluminum fire boat on Sept. 29 by the Residence Inn, Charlestown. This boat was built over the past year in Kingston, Ontario Canada by MetalCraft Marine at a cost of $4,211,019.00. It replaced a 39 year old fire boat now in use. This boat was named the John S. Damrell after the late Chief of Department. The boat has a dive platform, a draft of only 3 feet and can pump 13,000 gallons of water per minute. It also has the very latest in marine electronics and will be staffed 24/7.
