Help keep me in the loop

If a parent has any info/photo of their child participating in a sports or recreational activity (elementary school, high school, college, or otherwise), please E-Mail me at bunker[email protected] and I will be sure to include the info/photo in a column. I’d also love to hear about any honor roll students or scholar athletes, or just about any story which would recognize the accomplishments of past and present “Townies.”

Little League news

For the latest up-to-date information, as well as standings and stats, go to the Charlestown Little League website at www.leaguelineup.com/Charlestown-l-l. There is also a photo album icon on the main menu which contains more than a hundred individual and action photos of the players.

The Senior League season kicked off with the East Boston Marlins scoring three runs in their last at bat to post a 4-2 victory over the Charlestown Twins. Starting pitcher Reardan Sweeney, who belted out two hits (including a double), was sensational in tossing a 2-hitter over six innings. He also allowed no earned runs and struck out 12 batters. Catcher Nolan Carrier (RBI single, walk), shortstop Calan Cahill (hit, run, walk), second baseman Ronan Carrier (2 walks), and right-fielder Philip Kelly (walk, run) provided the offense…The Twins also suffered a 6-2 setback to the Brighton Red Sox. First-baseman Brendan Cantin (2 hits, double, RBI) and shortstop Patrick Sullivan (2 hits, run) swung hot bats while pitcher Alex Watson utilized his devastating curve ball to strike out 8 batters in three innings of relief.

In Major League action, Jenny’s notched a pair of wins to remain in the chase for first place. Sluggers Sahdat Arroyo and Hughie O’Donnell blasted homers while Nolan Doherty and Sean Wren were the winning pitchers…In a key matchup against the Teamsters, Jenny’s jumped out to a quick 3-0 behind a wicked line-drive home run by Hughie O’Donnnell. However, a Jake Scanlon tater and a relentless balanced offense proved to be too much as the Teamster’s bounced back for a 7-3 victory.

At the Triple AAA level, CHAD rookie Aiden Carroll knocked in the clinching run in an exciting walk-off victory over Eagle Elevator. In the game, catcher Colin DelValle blasted a monstrous two-run homer and Eddie Pistorino picked up the win with lights out relief pitching…Also, behind the hitting of Noel Gallagher, Eddie Pistorino, Caroline Sicotte and Rory Carrier, CHAD outlasted the Knights of Columbus in a hard-fought contest…CHAD did it again, picking up their fifth straight win in a 6-5 walk-off classic against the talented Century 21 squad. Colin DelValle picked up the win with two innings of brilliant relief pitching and outfielder Daniel Bryan smashed a two-out triple to score Rory Carrier with the clinching run.

For pure fun and enthusiasm, nothing compares to the action at the Minor League level. With the emphasis on improving skills and increasing knowledge and fundamentals, it is where the players experience their first hit or make their first good defensive play. A special “thank you” goes out to the Minor League team sponsors: the Charlestown Mothers Association, Johnnie’s Foodmaster, Engine 32 and Ladder 9, Monument Flooring, the Iron side Grille, and Memorial Hall.
