Marianna McGurty

Charlestown resident

Marianna (Lombardo) McGurty of Charlestown died on Feb. 2. She was 91 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Thomas J. McGurty, she was the devoted mother of Mary McGraw and her husband, Kenny, of Connecticut, Nancy Mugford and her husband, Peter, of Hamilton, Marian Summers and her husband, Paul and Theresa McGurty, all of Charlestown and Thomas McGurty and his wife, Cheryl, of Medford; loving grandmother of seven and great grandmother of two;  beloved sister of Philip J. Lombardo, Josephine Masucci, Salvatore Lombardo, Nancy Lombardo and the late Gaspare, Peter, Joseph Lombardo and Nina Belmonte.

Funeral arrangements were by the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, Charlestown. Private burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Gary Carvalho

Formerly of Charlestown

Gary M. Carvalho of Woburn died unexpectedly on Feb. 1. He was 66 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Sage) Carvalho; devoted father of Karen A. Cole and her husband, Mark, of Woburn and Jodi L. Carvalho of Burlington; dear brother of the late Ronald and Dennis Carvalho; cherished “Puppa” of Lilly, Kyla and Kacy Cole.

Born in Boston he was the son of the late Jesse and Helen (Bux) Carvalho. He was raised in Charlestown, and was a graduate of Charlestown High School. Following high school he worked at a meat house for several years. During that time he met his future bride and best friend Judy Sage at a gathering at a friends home. They were married and made their home in Charlestown for the next five years and then moved to Woburn in 1972, where they have made their home ever since. Gary had worked at Madico for a number of years and then to United Stationaires, where he remained for the next twenty five years, retiring a year and a half ago.

-(Francis ‘Sonny’ Norton

Charlestown resident

Francis X. “Sonny” Norton of Charlestown died on Jan. 26.

A US Army veteran, he was the beloved husband of Cheryl M. Aucoin-Norton; devoted father of Mark Norton and his wife, Julie, of Melrose, Gregg Norton of Wilmington and the late Keith Norton; brother of Mary Carroll and her husband, Jack, of Danvers and the late Claire Healy; grandfather of Francis X. II, Patrick, Taylor and Anna Norton.

Joseph O’Neil, Sr.

Worked for BPD Electrical Division

Joseph F. O’Neil, Sr. of Dorchester, formerly of Charlestown, died on Jan. 30.

He was a retired member of the Teamsters Local 25, an employee of the City of Boston BPD Electrical Division, a member of the Willis N. Penny A.L. Post 399 and James J. Rice Amvets Post 28.

He was the beloved husband of the late Carol T. (Welsh); loving father of Maureen E. and her husband, A. Donald Piccarini, of Braintree, Joseph E. O’Neil Jr. of Dorchester, Carolanne and her husband, Michael D. McColgan, of Quincy, Daniel C. O’Neil of Dorchester, and Sheila M. and her husband, Kenneth J. Clark, of Milton; son of the late John F. and Margaret T. (O’Connell) O’Neil; brother of Alice Sniegoski of Lynn, Leo O’Neil of Billerica, Robert O’Neil of Georgia and the late John F. O’Neil and Margaret Hingston. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald Colby

Of Billerica, formerly of Charlestown

Gerald T. Colby of Billerica, formerly of Charlestown, died on January 31.

He was the beloved son of the late Marion (Fitzgerald) and Alfred R. Colby; loving partner of Debra Aceto; devoted brother of Marion Fay of Middleboro, Linda Colby of Swampscott and the late Barbara Young, Albert and Joseph Colby; loving uncle of several nieces and nephews.

Martha Marcella

Charlestown resident

Martha A. (McGoff) Marcella of Charlestown died on February 5.

She was the beloved wife of the late John A. “Jack” Marcella; devoted mother of Michelle Marcella-Previte, John Marcella, Danielle Reilly, Maria Marcella, Daniel and Robert Marcella and Brendan Riordan; sister of Dolores Allwood, and the late James, Daniel and Michael McGoff and Mary “Lady” Evers.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
