Charlestown’s own Caroline Ward is being recognized and honored as a Shining Star at the second annual Go for MGH Shining Stars Gala on Thursday October 8, at the Bunker Hill Knights of Columbus in Charlestown. The Shining Star award honors the extraordinary nurses at Massachusetts General Hospital who care for women with gynecologic cancer every day. Caroline along with three other nurses will be honored at the event as Shining Stars.

Growing up in Charlestown, Caroline always felt that small town community connection. She always had a million opportunities to do sports, theatre, sailing, and other activities and she also developed connections with her fellow neighbors as well. Caroline was inspired by her four aunts as they were all nurses themselves and she always wanted to be in a career where she wanted to help people. She said that women have always cared for her, so she wanted to provide for people who have done the same. She always had gratitude for women who were asking her how her day was going and caring about her, especially when they were not feeling well and going through tough times.

When Caroline was selected for this award, she felt surprised, touched, and honored. She said she expresses a lot of gratitude for being honored, but that she was just doing her job and didn’t realize her work was as meaningful as it is. On October 8th, she would love to see the people of Charlestown come out and see the support and the work that everyone is doing.

Come support Charlestown’s own Caroline Ward at the 2nd annual Go for MGH Shining Stars Gala on Thursday, October 8th at the Bunker Hill Knights of Columbus at 6 P.M!
