Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday

Fr. Dan Mahoney, pastor of Saint Francis de Sales parish, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at Saint Francis de Sales Church, 303 Bunker Hill Street “On the top of Bunker Hill” also affectionately known as “The Firefighter’s Church” on Sunday, June 5 at 3 p.m.

Fr. Dan will celebrate 66 years of priesthood, 54 years at Saint Francis de Sales parish and 44 years as pastor of Saint Francis de Sales. He also celebrates 27 years as assistant chaplain of the Boston Fire Department, 31 years as chief chaplain of the Boston Fire Department and chaplain of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, the 100 Club of Massachusetts, Boston Firefighters Local 718 ASL-CIO and previously served as chaplain of the Cambridge, Chelsea, Revere and Wayland fire departments as well as chaplain for many Charlestown organizations.

Everyone is invited to attend this Mass of Thanksgiving. Parking will be available at Flatley’s (formerly Schrafft’s) with shuttle service beginning at 2pm. Due to inflation and unemployment – Dr. Dan is asking for no gifts. Your presence is your gift.

Quinn Golf Tourney Set for August 5th

The 25th annual Lt. Michael P. Quinn golf tournament is planned for Friday, August 5, and is sure to be a grand day of enjoyment. The event will be held at the William J. Devine Golf Course (1 Circuit Drive, Dorchester MA) and golf shoes or sneakers must be worn on the course with the shotgun start commencing at 8:00 a.m..

There is a $125.00 fee per golfer which includes carts, gifts, prizes, and a luncheon. All proceeds are directed to the Lt. Michael P. Quinn Scholarship to assist the youth of Charlestown obtain a college degree. Immediately after the tourney a luncheon will be held at Florian Hall, 55 Hallet St., Dorchester MA.

A $100.00 deposit (or total payment) per player would be greatly appreciated on or before July 5th. For those interested in playing as a foursome, please contact Ronan FitzPatrick at (617-242-5493) or Email [email protected] with the team information.

Charlestown To Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month

In a show of solidarity and acceptance for our LGBTQ+ neighbors, newly-elected Boston City Councilor Gabriela Coletta, Representative Dan Ryan, and State Senator Sal DiDomenico are partnering with the Flatley Company to host the 4th annual Pride flag raising at the Schrafft’s building located at 529 Main Street in Charlestown. This year’s event will take place outside at the flagpoles adjacent to Sullivan Square.

“As we kick off LGBTQ+ pride month, we must take every opportunity to celebrate love, progress, and inclusivity in Charlestown,”  said Councilor Coletta. “Raising the pride flag affirms that everyone is welcomed, accepted, and loved for who they are. I look forward to the ceremony and thank the Flatley Company for hosting.”

“I am happy to once again take part in celebrating with our LGBTQ+ neighbors and friends; while also affirming the inclusiveness of our Charlestown community.  I thank Councilor Coletta for continuing this somewhat new, yet, honored Charlestown tradition,” said Rep. Dan ryan.

“Raising the PRIDE flag in Charlestown sends the message to all LGBTQ+ people— especially our youth—that they are welcomed and have an important place in our community,” said State Senator Sal DiDomenico. “I want to thank Councilor Coletta, Rep. Ryan, and the Flatley Company for including me in sharing the honor of flying the PRIDE flag. It speaks to our collective commitment to ensure the rights and safety of all.”

“The Schrafft’s City Center is pleased to once again participate and host the annual LGBTQ+ flags for the Charlestown community,” said Bill Bush, Vice President of the Flatley Company.

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 8th at 5:30PM outside the Schrafft’s Building located at 529 Main Street near the fire station.

Free Parents’ Night Out

Christ Church Charlestown is hosting a free Parents’ Night Out on Thursday, June 9, 6:00-8:30PM, at 10 Green Street in Charlestown for kids up to 5th grade. We have space for 25 kids. We will have games, crafts, and food for all participants and no religious instruction — this event exists merely to serve any Charlestown families, regardless of religious beliefs. All volunteers have submitted and passed a national background check. If you would like to sign your child up or have questions, please email our Kids’ Director Kayla Stephens at [email protected].

Father Ronan to Deliver his Final Mass on Sunday

All are invited to celebrate with Fr. Jim Ronan, on June 5th at 10:30a.m. as he says his last Mass at St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena. Fr. Ronan is celebrating his 40th year of ordination and 18 years of service as Pastor at St. Mary – St. Catherine of Siena Parish. All parishioners are invited to a reception following the service.
