USS Constitution to Host Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

The crew of USS Constitution is scheduled to host their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Saturday, December 7 at 4:30 p.m. on the ship. The public is invited to attend this free event, which will include holiday music, free hot chocolate and cookies, an appearance by Santa Claus and his elves, and remarks from USS Constitution’s commanding officer.

Guests may begin boarding the ship for the ceremony at 3:45 p.m. and are invited to observe evening colors with the crew, during which, USS Constitution will fire her saluting battery at 4:12 p.m. Following the ceremony, guests will be permitted to tour the ship until 6 p.m.

Free Pancake Breakfast with SANTA!

On Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, Santa will take a quick break from his Christmas preparations for a pancake and sausage breakfast at the First Church at 10 Green St. Everyone is invited to this community event, bring your camera for photos and don’t miss the holiday inflatable extravaganza!

Charlestown’s Holiday Night Out

Save the date and join your neighbors for a fun, family friendly night in the town on Thurs., Dec. 12, from 5-8 p.m. Support your local small businesses! The town’s businesses, makers, community groups, and nonprofits are busy organizing and preparing for Charlestown’s First Holiday Night Out.  There will be pop-ups in stores and studios as well as sidewalk vendors. Harvest on Vine Food Pantry Appeal

Since the start of the school year, the Food Pantry has had a great need for cereal to include in its distribution.  Donations of non-perishable foods are also greatly appreciated.

Holiday Clothing Drive – Help Someone Stay Warm This Winter

The Charlestown Coalition/Turn It Around are asking for contributions of winter clothing this season. This appeal is for brand new socks, hats, gloves and scarves for adults. There are donation boxes located at The Boys & Girls Club on the third floor, Charlestown Coalition Office and The First Church in Charlestown will be accepting donations Monday – Friday From noon- 1 p.m. or Sundays from 9:30 a.m. – noon.  There will also be a box at the Charlestown Peace Park during Charlestown Night Out, Dec. 12, 5-7 p.m.

AGC Open Studios and Dec. Exhibition

Open Studios at  StoveFactory on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8 will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will give guests a chance to explore all 3 floors of Artist’s Studios. Shop for gifts or your own collection, meet the artists where they work. The Artists’ Group of Charlestown Dec. Exhibition 2019 will be held at the StoveFactory Gallery, Dec. 7th & 8th and Dec. 14th & 15th from 11:00 to 5:00 each weekend. The exhibition is free and open to the public, the gallery is handicapped accessible. StoveFactory Gallery is at 523 Medford St..

“e” inc. opens New Science Store for the Holidays Dec. 13th

Local science and action non-profit “e” inc. is opening a science themed activity store in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Filled with books, science experiment kits, tools to explore the Natural World, puzzles, games, stuffed animals and puppets, and much, much more — the “e” inc. Science Emporium is getting ready for the Holidays. On Friday, Dec. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. there will be a celebratory Opening Night! Parents and children are invited to come and explore – with kids having a separate supervised fun activity area so parents can chat, shop for holiday presents, make suggestions on our Suggestion Board and activities to take home. Sales for opening nite include 10% off on stuffed animals, 5% off on books, and 5% off if you bring in a coupon from social media! The new “e” inc. Science Emporium is located at 114 16th Street in the Navy Yard of Charlestown. Parking is on Medford Street and also the lot on 5th Ave.

Join the celebration at the Coop Bank

Everyone is invited – stop by the bank and get in the Holiday spirit on Thursdays Dec. 5, 12, and 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be refreshments, holiday treats and give aways. The Cooperative Bank, 201 Main Street.

Warren Prescott    School Preview
