Turn it Around Basketball Tournament – seeking Players and Sponsors

The 5th Annual Turn it Around Basketball Tournament is set for Saturday, May 4th from 10a.m.to 4 p.m. at the Charlestown Community Center. Harvest on Vine Annual Fundraiser April 25

This year’s annual fundraiser for Harvest on Vine food pantry will take place on Thursday, April 25th at the Knights of Columbus #62 on Medford St. Tony V. And Karson Tager will entertain, food catered by Boston Beer Works. There will be great raffle prizes and a LIVE auction as well. Applications available for Old Schoolboys Scholarships

The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association is pleased to announce that there are a number of scholarships available to high school seniors boys who will be entering college or preparatory school, or technical college. Some of these scholarships will also be awarded to college students who will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior years.

Applications may be obtained at the Charlestown Public Library, the Boys and Girls Club, St Mary-St Catherine Parish office, St. Francis de Sales office, St. John’s and First Church of Charlestown offices.

Deadline for submitting applications is April 15, 2019.

First Church Egg Hunt April 20

On Saturday, April 20th hop on over to the First Church in Charlestown at 10 Green Street for their annual Easter egg hunt and more. The event will run from 12-2p.m. and will include a visit from the Easter bunny, a petting zoo, free raffle for great prizes and more. All are welcome.

A Fun Day of Swapping and Shopping is Ahead: The Charlestown Children’s Clothing Swap

The Charlestown Mothers Association and The Charlestown Community Center have partnered to create the first Charlestown Children’s Clothing Swap! It will be held at The Charlestown Community Center at 255 Medford St. from 10am-12pm on Saturday April 27th.  The swap is the perfect chance to declutter and pass on your outgrown children’s or maternity clothing, toys, and gear, while also having a fun day of shopping for your growing family. We will be accepting children’s clothing in all sizes (from baby to teen), children’s gear (bibs, blankets, carriers, strollers, etc.), toys, and maternity clothing. We cannot accept furniture, books, pumps, other adult clothing, or very large items at this time. Bring your clean, gently worn items to the Community Center between 10am-12pm and place your items on pre-marked tables that will be separated by category and size. Volunteers will be able for assistance. This event is free and open to all Charlestown Residents; you do not have to be a CMA member. Bags will be provided to the first 100 people; so get there early! Expecting families are also welcome! Left over items will be donated to local community organizations.

Charlestown Community Impact Fund Grant opportunity

The Charlestown Community Impact Fund (Wynn Money) is taking applications for its spring round of grants for Charlestown non-profits. The spring application deadline is April 15, with grant awards coming on May 31. The Committee will award one-time grants in the range of $5,000 to $10,000. Depending on how many applications they receive — and how many grants they award — they may offer awards that are less than the amount requested in a grant application.

The fund was created as a condition of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s approval for Wynn Resorts to run a casino in Everett. Wynn made a $1 million payment to the fund in 2016.

Warren Prescott Spring Fling – Saturday April 6

The Warren-Prescott Foundation Spring Fling 2019 Annual Fundraiser & Auction will be held on April 6, 2019 from 7-11 p.m. at Boston Beer Works, 116 Canal St., Boston

Event includes dinner, DJ, silent and live auction, hand-painted Louis Vuitton raffle and a wine pull by Common Vines and Taste Wine Bar & Kitchen. Event and raffle tickets may be purchased online before 12 PM on April 5th. They will also be available Thursday and Friday morning in the school lobby (cash or check). After April 5th at 12 PM, all ticket must be purchased at the event.

Palm Sunday Concert at St. Mary’s Church

At St. Mary Church, Charlestown, on March 14th at 3:00 p.m., distinguished organist Peter Sykes, conductor Daniel Sauceda and the Charlestown Community Choir, will offer more of Bach’s meditations on the Palm Sunday liturgy and conclude with to Mascagni’s grand Easter Hymn Regina Coeli. The historic Woodberry and Harris tracker organ will peal out in support of a profoundly moving concert/meditation, which will, for the fifth year, focus the congregation on the spirit of Holy Week. Harvest on Vine Food Pantry Requests

This week the Harvest on Vine Food Pantry is requesting boxes of cereal, beef stew and soup for a hot meal and cans of coffee. Any donation of non-perishable foods that you could make would also be greatly appreciated.

Donations can be dropped off at the Food Pantry at 49 Vine St. (Hayes Square), The Cooperative Bank at 201 Main St. and at the Parish Center on 46 Winthrop St. (across from the Training Field).  Financial donations can be sent to: Harvest on Vine, Parish Center, 46 Winthrop St., Charlestown, MA 02129.  For more information, call Tom MacDonald, director, at 617-990-7314.

This Week on Charlestown & Beyond

A special edition of Charlestown & Beyond this week will feature a return of Abby & Megan with their looking forward to a future trip to Morocco by preparing a Moroccan feast. Abby will include a list of spices and recipes and where to find the ingredients around Boston. The program will appear on Thursday, April 4th at 6:30 pm on BNN-TV Boston Comcast channel 9, RCN channel 15 and Verizon channel 1961.
