NOTING 5 YEARS AT NAVY YARD

To the Charlestown Community

Friday, April 27, marks an incredible milestone in the Charlestown Navy Yard’s rich history, the opening of the new Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital five years ago. From the time we announced this project to its completion and during the five years since then it has been a true partnership with the community. There have been far too many examples of kindness and generosity by the community for our patients and staff to name during this time, but please know we are so very grateful for all of them.

In the weeks and months that followed our opening, Spaulding set to the task of caring for some of the most catastrophically injured patients from the Boston Marathon Bombing, all under the world’s spotlight. This provided us an opportunity, for all of the wrong reasons, to raise the general public’s awareness about the importance and benefit of rehabilitation medicine for people with disabilities. This heightened awareness has continued to benefit our patients and their families, as well as our research and teaching missions. As our neighbors and friends, we hope that you also share our pride in what we have achieved together.

All of us at Spaulding want to take this opportunity as we reflect back to thank you for your support and partnership these past five years. We look forward to the next five years and beyond to what all of us together can accomplish. It has been our honor to join the Charlestown Community and establish one of the world’s leading centers of healing and science.

With Gratitude,

David Storto

and Proud Charlestown Resident
