Joan Matarazzo
Of Medford, formerly of Charlestown
Joan G. (Curran) Matarazzo, a 55 year resident of Medford, formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, Nov. 27 at home. She was 82 years of age. Joan was born in Boston on June 24, 1935, a daughter of the late Lawrence R. Curran and Elizabeth G. (Fox) Curran. She grew up in Charlestown, where she attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School.
Joan worked for her family business, the Italo-American Ravioli and Deano’s Pastacia of Somerville, where she held many titles in the company, but will be fondly remembered as commander-in-chief of the business. Joan loved spending quality time with her sisters and her family, especially the trips to Marshfield and Marco Island, Fla. Joan was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
The beloved wife of 55 years to Ralph D. Matarazzo, she was the devoted mother of Mark Matarazzo and Michelle DePaulis, Ralph Matarazzo and his wife, Barbara, Joanie Creato and her husband, Tim, Lisa Keen and her husband, Tom, and Dean Matarazzo and his wife, Hala; the loving Nana to Cara, Nicole, Diana, Ava, Noah, Ethan, Sara, Katherine, Patrick, Thomas, Mya, Dean, Jenna, and Nathan; the beloved sister of Catherine West, Theresa Roche, and the late Marilyn Mullaney, Lawrence Curran Jr., Catherine Hickey, Patricia Sullivan and Gertrude Toner. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan’s Funeral on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St.,, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Friday, Dec. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
