CATCH THE McTEGGARTS FEVER

I am down at Faneuil Hall Marketplace all the time. Over time I became a fan of the McTeggarts, a great Irish band that plays over at the Black Rose on a regular basis.

Recently, while selling items at Johnny Two Dogs stand, Jim Bryne and Mike O’Brien came over to the stand for a sweet Italian sausage. Mike comes from Dublin and Jimmy from Cork.

MAYOR’S COFFEE HOUR AT COLUMBUS PARK

While attending Mayor Walsh’s North End-Waterfront Coffee Hour last week, I bumped into Charlestown’s former longtime state representative Eugene O’Flaherty who is now the city’s chief lawyer. He tells me he loves his new job and you can see it in his Irish grin.

FATHER DAN, SAINT FLORIAN AND  DAVE DeFILIPPO

There’s a new statue of Saint Florian, the patron saint of all firefighters. It was a gift from the Boston Firefighters Local 718 for Father Dan Mahoney for his decades of service as Boston’s chief fire chaplain.

Dave DeFilippo who owns Woodlawn Memorials created the statue and donated the granite base after hearing so much good about Father Dan.

I was there at the crowded dedication. A big turnout for a big man in Charlestown.

Look at the statue next time you pass it and say a prayer for Father Dan, too.

WRAPPING UP OLD NEWS

The month of June and Bunker Hill Day seem to come and go so fast. This year I ended up at a banquet for the parade down at the Knights and ended up dining with the Mayor of Charlestown in Ireland.

My maternal grandparents from West Cork must have been looking down from heaven watching it all with big smiles. My mom too. She always told me I was Irish like her.

I chatted up with  Gerry Murray who is the mayor of Charlestown County Mayo and his chief engineer Michael Sweeney. Was good seeing Maureen McNamara our movie producer legend too.
