Charlestown novelist Tom MacDonald is preparing to launch his latest crime novel, The Revenge of Liam McGrew, at the Navy Yard Bistro on Dec. 13.
MacDonald is the director of social ministries at St. Mary’s-St. Catherine’s Church and a long-time resident of Charlestown. He has previously written ‘The Charlestown Connection’ and ‘Beyond the Bridge,’ but his newest novel is another installment in the Dermot Sparhawk series.
MacDonald began his book signing tour last weekend, starting at Pope John High School in Everett, but will do his official book launch party at the Navy Yard Bistro on Dec. 13 from 1-3:30 p.m.
In the third book in the Sparhawk series, Boston native Dermot Sparhawk is at it again. Dragged into yet another set of circumstances that he wants nothing to do with, Sparhawk is forced to call on all his connections and physical skills to keep from getting killed. It seems that an assassin is waiting around every corner and Sparhawk doesn’t know why. To save his own life, he works the streets of Boston, asking questions, leveraging friendships, and persuading reluctant witnesses to tell him what he needs to know. He visits waterfront gin mills and basement AA halls in search of the truth. And the truth takes him from his native Charlestown, to his ancestral Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he faces an inevitable showdown with the man attempting to kill him. MacDonald has a BA in sociology from Stonehill College, an MBA from Boston College, and an MFA from the University of Southern Maine.
