The well-known Beacon Hill Athletic Club (BHAC) is looking to add its eighth location in City Square if neighbors and the community reach an agreement on the move.
A meeting of the Charlestown Neighborhood Council (CNC) Basic Services Committee will examine the issue at a public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Marriott Residence Inn on Tudor Wharf (34-44 Charles River Ave.).
Jeremy McCabe, director of marketing for the Club, said the company found an opening in the middle space at 20 City Square between the yoga studio and the Spinning studio. The 2,400 sq. ft. space will have a full weight room and a full cardio component, but won’t feature as much group exercise classes.
“We get contacted by a lot of realtors and a realtor showed us this space that was open and we felt it was a good fit,” he said. “The community does have a Y and a CrossFit, but it seemed like a good location for us because we like to give access to all our members at all our locations and this is very close to our other clubs, such as in North Station.”
BHAC has locations in North Station, Beacon Hill, North End, Brookline Village, Brighton, Wellesley and Newton.
“This is a smaller space, so we’re going to really focus here on personal training,” he said. “It will carry the Beacon Hill Athletic Club name and we’ll probably have an extra tag on it as well.” The BHAC is one of the highest rated gyms and fitness clubs on most local Internet sites, including a 4-star overall rating on the Yelp site.
